چکیده

We present an analysis of simultaneous multifrequency measurements of the Galactic emission in the 1-10 GHz range with 18◦ angular resolution taken from a high altitude site. Our data yield a determination of the synchrotron spectral index between 1.4 GHz and 7.5 GHz of αsyn = 2.81 ± 0.16. Combining our data with the maps from Haslam et al. (1982) and Reich & Reich (1986) we find αsyn = 2.76 ± 0.11 in the 0.4 7.5 GHz range. These results are in agreement with the few previously published measurements. The variation of αsyn with frequency based on our results and compared with other data found in the literature suggests a steepening of the synchrotron spectrum towards high frequencies as expected from theory, because of the steepening of the parent cosmic ray electron energy spectrum. Comparison between the Haslam data and the 19 GHz map (Cottingham 1987) also indicates a significant spectral index variation on large angular scale. Addition quality data are necessary to provide a serious study of these effects.

Analysis of the thin layer of Galactic warm ionized gas in the range 20 ◦ < l < 30 ◦ , − 1 . 5 ◦ < b < + 1 . 5 ◦

We present an analysis of the thin layer of Galactic warm ionized gas at an angular resolution ∼ 10. This is carried out using radio continuum data at 1.4 GHz, 2.7 GHz and 5 GHz in the coordinate region 20 < l < 30, −1.5 < b < +1.5. For this purpose, we evaluate the zero level of the 2.7 and 5 GHz surveys using auxiliary data at 2.3 GHz and 408 MHz. The derived zero level corrections are Tzero(...

ARCADE 2 Observations of Galactic Radio Emission 3

We use absolutely calibrated data from the ARCADE 2 flight in July 2006 to model Galactic emission at frequencies 3, 8, and 10 GHz. The spatial structure in the data is consistent with a superposition of free-free and synchrotron emission. Emission with spatial morphology traced by the Haslam 408 MHz survey has spectral index βsynch = −2.5± 0.1, with free-free emission contributing 0.10 ± 0.01 ...

The impact of Galactic synchrotron emission on CMB anisotropy measurements

Context. Galactic foreground emission fluctuations are a limiting factor for precise cosmic microwave background (CMB) anisotropy measurements. Aims. We intend to improve current estimates of the influence of Galactic synchrotron emission on the analysis of CMB anisotropies. Methods. We perform an angular power spectrum analysis (APS) of all-sky total intensity maps at 408 MHz and 1420 MHz, whi...

A determination of the Spectra of Galactic components observed by WMAP

WMAP data when combined with ancillary data on free-free, synchrotron and dust allow an improved understanding of the spectrum of emission from each of these components. Here we examine the sky variation at intermediate latitudes using two approaches (a) T–T plots and (b) a cross-correlation technique. The free-free emission of the diffuse ionized gas fits a well-known spectrum over a frequency...
